On 15 March 2019, following the terrorist mosque attacks in New Zealand, the Desmond Tutu Centre for Religion and Social Justice invited the UWC community and networks to commemorate the lives of these victims.
As a Centre which studies the intersections of religion and social justice, we sought to highlight the multiple ways in which religion is implicated in social injustice through various embodied observances. Photographs of the victims were displayed around the room accompanied by their biographies, as attendees of the commemoration were invited to light candles and utter the names of the victims.
