From the 23rd to 26th of November 2019, Prof Nadar and Dr Scharnick-Udemans attended the 2019 Annual Conference of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) in San Diego.
Dr Evelyn L. Parker discussed Research Methodological Concerns about the project, “The Role of Religious Leaders in Preventing and Intervening in Youth Partner Violence”
The 41st annual ASRSA conference took place in Pretoria on the 4th and 5th of September. The theme of the conference was Religion and Economy. Dr Scharnick-Udemans’ presentation offered a nuanced worldview of a religious group, the Seven Angels Ministry, which has been ostracized by the media, society, and the academy.
As part of the centre’s commitment to interrogating the ways in which religion is involved and implicated in a variety of uneven power relations in society, we consciously work to bridge the gap between academia and civil society in productive and thoughtful ways. To that end, Dr Scharnick-Udemans penned a response to the debate about noise complaints against Zeenatul Islam mosque in Cape Town.
This report by an international visiting PhD student on her experience of the cohort supervision workshops as well as the other commitments of the Centre, captures the essence of our objectives and goals.
